Our College, Satyabadi Meher Junior Mahavidyalaya, Madhapur was established in the year 1989, with a substantial given by Sri krushna Chandra Meher, a teacher of primary school, a keen lover of Higher Education. Our Institute has been named in the name of his father, Late Satyabadi Meher, a pious gentle man. His sole aim was to educate the rural poor students who were deprived of higher education. At that time it was the only +2 college in 8 Gram Panchayats. Almost all SC and ST students having getting higher education.

   In the beginning, it was started in high school building (Madhapur High School) during the morning session. After one year, with the help of the local village, "Titirikata" it owned 7.33 acres of land. The college was shifted and started functioning in its own land by constructing a pucca building with thatched roof having two big size rooms at Madhapur, the general place of 8 Panchayats. From the beginning the college has been providing co-education from the academic session 1989-90. Due to lack of foresight of the local leaders and staff the first batch of the college appeared the Annual HS examination, 1991 as private candidates in the subdivision headquarters' college, i,e Athamallick college, Athamallick. Later on the college got government permission, temporary recognition from the session 1990-91 to take admission of the students in the 1^st year +2 Arts stream with 128 seats in 4 optional and 2 compulsory subjects like History, Political Science, Economics and Odia(opt.) as optional subjects and English, MIL(O) as compulsory subjects. During the session 1991-92 DHE gave a conditional permission to its students to appear the CHSE Examination as regular candidates. Since the academic session 1992-93 regularly the institution obtained temporary Govt. Recognition & Temporary Affiliation of CHSE on every year without fail upto the session 2002-03. Again in the academic session 2003-04 Govt. pleased to accord permanent Recognition & CHSE also accorded permanent Affiliation to the institution without any condition in a full-fledged. Now the college is functioning smoothly with 5 teaching & 11 non-teaching staff including P.E.T.

   This year, 2011-12 the college completed its 22^nd year. Within such a long period the institution has been declared by the Govt. as an aided educational institution as per the GIA, Letter No. 35841/Dted. 08.12.2010 and its 8 staff both teaching & non-teaching has received 40% Block Grant by way of GIA. The rest staff receiving the management payment with hope of ray to get GIA in a new policy of the Govt. in future.
