Having realized the significance and necessity of Higher Education for the rural poor of Purushottampur and its periphery a few education-loving, generous and philanthropic people of the locality, dreamt of providing higher education to the children of the have-nots as well as the girl students of the conservative families on their door step. Their dream had immense strength, their activities had the true spirit and honesty. Those young and spirited bunch of people under the selfless and inspiring leadership and guidance of Late Narayan Samantray, involved themselves day in and day out, forgetting their own world and worries, for fulfilling their cherished desire of setting up a college. The dream came true, exactly on 13 August 1979. Around 5 kms away from the hill-temple of Tara Tarini, having named after the Goddesses, on the picturesque bank of holy Rushikulya, the college was established and it was officially inaugurated by Late Brundaban Nayak, the then MLA, Hinjili on the same date. By and by the efforts and endeavors of the Governing Body, headed by the founder President Late Narayan Samantray the staff, the public as well as the young students paved the way for the growth and development of the institution. In 1981, having had the Govt. permission and Recognition, the college got affiliated to Berhampur University for I.A and I.Com. In the year 1984 +2 Science was introduced after winding up +2 Commerce. Then the College got affiliated to CHSE for +2 Arts and Science, after obtaining the Govt. concurrence. In the session 1988-89 the college had the Govt. recognition and university affiliation for opening of +3 Arts. In the year 1991 +3 Science was introduced. In +2 level the college has the sanctioned strength of 128 in Science with optional subjects, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and IT and 192 seats in +2 Arts with optional subjects History, Pol. Science, Economics, Education, Psychology, Oriya, Mathematics, Home Science and IT.

     Now it is a full-fledged degree college, offering under graduate courses in Science and Arts with Honours teaching facilities in Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology in science and History, Pol. Science, Economics and Oriya in Arts faculty with well-furnished Laboratories, well-stocked General and Seminar Libraries, Reading Room, outdoor and indoor sports facilities.

     In December 1994 the college got the UGC recognition under 2F and 12B. Since then the college has received the UGC grants for various projects and programmes. The UGC has funded for the Teacher Fellowship for Ph.D and M.Phil programmes as well as Minor Research Programmes. Most of the Teachers have availed these facilities for their research work.

     The Academic ambience, the skillful and competent Teachers, the effective administration and the positive response of the public have helped the institution to reach greater height. The college is committed to keep up the educational values besides providing quality education. This college has an outstanding reputation in conducting classes and examinations with true spirit and zeal. It has also achieved a shining track record in extra and co-curricular activities. The staff and the students have built a fine rapport with the people of the locality.

     We are really indebted to the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Orissa for his financial assistance for construction of the Auditorium and IT Laboratory, we are proud of the institution's all-round achievements and development under the competent guidance of the Principal, with the sincere efforts of the staff and the students and co-operation of the local people, the local MP and local MLA.
