Anchalika (Junior) Mahavidyalaya, Padmapur Keonjhar Orissa is the first Junior College in Sadar Block of Keonjhar district. Anchalika (Junior) Mahavidyalaya is named so giving a recognition to the effort of the inhabitants of this region (Padmapur Panchayat) for the establishment of this college for the higher education of the poor and tribal students of this area. The long cherished dream of this locality was ultimately materialized by the active co-operation of the people of Padmapur Panchayat in general and leadership of both old as well as young intellectuals of this region and the college was established in 1987. The first President of the college was late Sj. Harihara Soren, former M.P., Loksabha and Late Saroj Kumar Sahoo, was the founder Secretary of the college.

     The college started with only the Arts stream with 128 sanctioned strength in +2 and four optional subjects. Later two more optional subjects  Sanskrit and Sociology were opened up in the year 1991 and 2001 respectively. In the year 1991, sanctioned strength in +2 Arts increased to 256 and the Science stream was opened in 1994 in the college with 64 sanctioned strength. The college was notified as an Aided Junior College in 1994.

     In the year of its inception there were only 88 students got admitted in this college, but now it has grown into a full - fledged Junior College with near about 600 students.

     True to the dream of the makers of the college, this college has been maintaining a district reputation in academic and co-curricular field. We have also a good library at own hand and our faculty members are sincere and diligent who are trying their best to fulfill the aspirations of the public and students of the locality.

     Our college, named Anchalika (Junior) Mahavidyalaya, Padmapur, Keonjhar is an exclusively a +2 / Junior College, imparting course of +2 Arts and +2 Science since 1987 - 88 and 1994 - 95 respectively. The College Society / Governing Body, on applying in 1990 to upgrade the college into a Degree College was not permitted by the Govt. of Higher Education, Odisha, an account of policy of Department of Higher Education, Odisha of separating of +2 & +3.

Consequent upon that, the people of this region, constituting a different registered society, opened up a separate college, exclusively for +3 Degree Course, naming Anchalika (Degree) Mahavidyalaya, Padmapur from 1992 - 93 session. This college is imparting course in +3 Arts stream and yet to be notified an Aided College. To the best of our knowledge, the process of being notified as an Aided College, is going on at Dept. of Higher Education, Odisha.

     It has a separate identity as a college since its inception, i.e. 1992 - 93, having separate land, building, staff and governing body, above all, a separate campus. It has no link with our college. It is affiliated to North Orissa University, Takatpur, Baripada
