Maa Markama College, Bissamcuttack in the erstwhile undivided Koraput and the present Rayagada district of Odisha .saw the light of the day on the 15th July.1987. The idea of establishing such an institute of higher learning was conceived keeping in mind the need for better and quality education in this tribal dominated area with low percentage of literacy.
With the blessing of Maa Markama, the presiding deity of the village, the college has made strides. This region falls under the Scheduled Tribal Area. Hence the Govt was pleased to provide Grant-in-Aid to the college in 1994.
Beginning in 1987, with subject like MIL(O), English, History, Economics, Pol. Science and Optional Odia in the Arts Stream, the college has gone on to add feathers in its cap by opening the Science Stream (1995) and recently the Vocational wing in EDA & Computer Technology. The College owned AC 14.20 of land.
