Our College, S.S.J Mahavidyalaya,Basakera was established in the 1995 with a substantial donation given by General Public of 8 Panchayat .One of the Organization of  Holiness Jagannath in whose name this institution has been christened. At that time it was a great pride for the people of Orissa that this college was one of the 1001 educational institutions opened all over the world by his Holiness Lord Jagannath where besides regular curriculum, the teaching in meditation and Science of creative intelligence was imparted by the trained teachers coming from Different Areas of Locality.

     In the beginning, it imparted instruction for both boys & Girls in Arts, in Intermediate course, in S.J. High school, Badakera in Morning Time with only 56 students and 5 Teaching staffs. After3 Years, the college was shifted and started functioning in its own multistoried building located in Panjia Sahi Mouza  AC.4.57 in Dist Angul.

     The College is recognized by the Government of Orissa and was affiliated to C.H.S.E Orissa Bhubaneswar from the session (1996-97)to impart instruction for +2 courses in Arts.

     To give educational facilities to girls in addition to boys, co- education has been introduced from the academic session1996-97having subjects like Eng, MIL(O),HIST,POL.SC,ECO AND ODIA(OPT) After 11 Years that is during the session 2007-08 +2 Science Stream was opened having subjects Phy., Chem., Math & Bio each with 64 Seats. We got Permission to admit 64 Students in +2 Arts Strems initially. But during the Session (2009-10) the number of seats in this strems was extended to 128 with additional two subjects such as Psychology  & I.R.P.M with the demand of general Public we opened +2 Commerce Stream during the Session2009-10 with 64 seats.

     It is worthy to note that the college in enjoying Block Grand status since2009. The College had bi Governing Body/ Management of its own as it is sub judice and by orders of Honble Orissa High Court, it was under the direct control of the Director, Higher Education Orissa who himself was the Receiver of the College from 2009.

     This year (2011-12)the college completed its 17th year. The present student strength of the college is about 512 with 11 Teaching Staff and 12 Non-Teaching Staff. Though the college is in its growing stage, it has made much headway over the tears and it is striving hard to emerge as one of the prestigious institutions in the state. The present growth and vigour has been possible due to the donations contributed by the poorest of the poor and the rich ones of the Angul district Angul, the generous and eminent persons, and above all the students of the college from time to time.

     Let us all work together to carry on the mission of His Holinass of Lord Jagannath to make it to grow further to a still higher level with almost sincerity and truth in the name of the Almighty God.
