Teach a girl, a family is educated. Teach a boy, an individual is educated. Enthused for higher education of the girls in this tribal area lurk in the mind of some doyens of the locality. The year 1981 brought a new sun rise in the history of higher education at Rairangpur, Bamanghaty Sub-Division, of Mayurbhanj District. The only college for the women of the Sub-Division, Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Rairangpur was founded on 25.09.1981. It started in the P.CM. club. In the beginning only intermediate Arts classes were introduced with subjects like English, M.I.L (Odia) and (Hindi) as compulsory and History, Political Science, Economics, Home Science, Logic, Odia were taught as optional subjects. There it was elevated to a Degree college in Arts in June 1889 with English, M.I.L. (O) as compulsory with Home Science as Honours under North Orissa University. The college was brought under full-grant-in-aid from the session 1988-89. One career oriented Vocational subject of horticulture, was introduce by the state Govt from 2007. Moreover, that college has got permission to open +2 Science with 64 seats for the session 2010-2011 from RDE (O) BBSR. The college got its own land measuring 4 acres 70 Dm. near Rairangpur block office. It was shifted to its own building on 5^th February 1999. The college has been included under section 2 (F) and 12 (B) of the U.G.C. Act in April 2008. The U.G.C. has sanctioned Rs. 3 lakh for the purchase of books, journals, and equipments for the library and Rs. 15 lakh has been sanctioned to construct Girl's hostel.

     During the past 29 years, the college has been marching towards fulfilment of the aims and aspirations of the founders of the institutions. Again, much is yet to be done for the greater and better enhancement of the activities of this institution for which the commitment of the staff, well wisher, students and sympathetic attitude of the Government and University are indispensable.
