Ramachandi Mahavidyalaya was started in the year 1981 with the initiative of some public spirited intelligentsia and active co-operation of common people of the locality. The institution was set up with a vision to make available the opportunity of higher education particularity to the aspiring students of the locality ,who were otherwise deprived of such benefits due to socio-economic condition of the people. The institution is named after Goddess Ramachandi the presiding deity and the supreme source of inspiration of the area. The college is setup in a serene atmosphere amidst picturesque surrounding.

     The college was recognized by the Government of odisha in the year 1982 and was affiliated to Utkal University. It imparted studies in Intermediate course in Arts with 128 seats in the subjects like History, Pol-Science, Economics, Oriya,Logic Secretarial practice along with compulsory subjects. The college was later affiliated to the council of Higher Secondary Education from the session 1983-84 with the change of education pattern in the state.

     Although Degree classes in Arts with 64 seats was started in the year 1988-89 government recognized it from the session 1989-90 with subsequent grant of affiliation by Utkal University.

     Initially the institution was functioning in the middle English school campus at Gadamanatir,Until it was shifted to its own building situated in the sprawling corpus of land. The institution became full aided in the year 1992.

     The college is imparting instruction for both Higher Secondary and Degree Courses in Arts. The present student strength of the college is about 450 with 12 Teaching and 13 Non-teaching staff.
