During the mid-seventies of 20th century, a few local élites of Kaptipada Block felt the necessity of setting up a college in this tribal area to promote higher education. It was housed in the Boys High school of Kaptipada for the session 1978-79. Subsequently, to be away from the din & bustle of the township of Kaptipada, the college embracing a tranquil atmosphere congenial to study & suitable for academic pursuits was shifted to the village of Nuasahi in the Badakhaladi Panchayat of Kaptipada Block, surrounded by the Sunei river in the east and the Tangarasuni hill in the west.
Just after the institution has seen its rising sun a group of malefactors tried to shift this college to Baghajatin Padia of Mahuldiha Panchayat in the Name of Kaptipada College, Kaptipada. But due to strong opposition of the local people the matter was ultimately handed over to the Hon'ble High court . In obedience to the Hon'ble High court, the Govt. of Odisha brought an end to the matter by renaming the college as Kaptipada College, Nuasahi and renewing the Govt. Recognition to the same.
After umpteen trials & tribulations this institution managed to acquire the Govt. recognition from the session 1978-79. Moreover, the Council of Higher Secondary Education Odisha, Bhubaneswar was kind enough to accord affiliation to the college with 128 seats in +2 Arts stream (English and MIL (O) as compulsory and History, Pol.-Sc., Economics, Logic, Education and Odia as optional subjects). From the session 1991-92, the college got affiliation for commerce & from 1992-93 for science stream with 64 seats each and also extension of seats from 128 to 256 in +2 Arts stream with new subjects.
However, the sleepless nights of struggle, this institution saw the dawn & it received Grant-in-Aid w.e.f 01.06.1994. This pioneer institution is the senior-most centre of learning in Kaptipada subdivision catering the needs of higher education to the rural pupils. From the session 2003-04, the college has been accorded permission to open +3 Arts . Besides this, from the session 2010-11, +3 Commerce & Science streams and Honours subjects in Arts have also been opened.
The long cherished dream of this locality ultimately materialized by the active co-opertation of the people of local area under the leadership of Late Sj. Nirmala Ch. Mohakud, Sri Brundaban Mohanty, Sri Benudhara Behera, Sri Chintamani Biswal with the help of local MLAs & MPs. This college has been growing its branches since its inception. The campus area spreads over 11 acres of land & is only 2.5 km away from Kaptipada, by the side of Kaptipada -Sarat Road.
Starting only with 58 students, 6 teaching and 8 non-teaching staff, the college has now about 1400 students and 81 members of teaching and non-teaching staff (+2 & +3). It is now a full-fledged institution with a vocational wing in dairy-farming, Accounting and Auditing trades. This college has also obtained UGC affiliation under section 2FS 12(B) from 11-07-2010. But it has not received any UGC Aid since then.
The institution has distinction of having highly qualified faculty members .A student friendly-library in the campus provides access to internet & also provides Reading Room facilities for staff & students. A play ground which exists in the college campus facilitates the students for outdoor games.
Keeping pace with the fast changing world, the institution has adopted innovative practices to fulfil the growing academic needs of the students. Thus this college has set a very clear vision, which is to build a thriving culture in disseminating knowledge to all sections of the society through value based education.
