The formation of Gyan Bharati +2 Sc. Residential College (mainly GBIST), Mancheswar Village, Bhubaneswar  Orissa is the noble desire of some leading intellectuals and highly educated and senior citizens of Bhubaneswar for setting up a value based education in this urban cum rural area there by bringing social change and development to this part of Bhubaneswar where science education is still a far cry.

The college was set up to facilitate poor meritorious students of the area. The rural people think science is a tough subject. So it was set up to bring science education to the door step of the people. The college also helps in personality development of the students. It also installs a sense of responsibility by encouraging voluntary service starting inside college campus.The main aim of the college is to install a sense of confidence among the students who think science is a very difficult and tough subject. The objective of the college teaching is to make science an interesting and simple. The objective is to inspire confidence among rural students who also thinks that they are below par the urban students

Gyan Bharati Residential +2 Sc. College was started with a vision to impart Quality education and built-up of the personality of the students. The advisory board comprising of experienced engineers including NRI engineers are instrumental in framing the guide lines of the college. The need of an exclusive institution to impart quality education to +2 science motivated the founders to set up UTKAL GYAN BHARATI TRUST in 2006. The college under the trust got permission from the Government in 2008-09 in the name of Gyan Bharati Institution of Science & Technology.

Applications for the post of Principal, Vice-Principal, teaching and non-teaching staff were called for through advertisements in all the leading newspapers and the selection committee decided on the staff of the college based on CHSE norms. The continuance of the staff of this college in the college is reviewed every year with feedback from the students and their behavior through a confidential feedback from other staffs.

Wide publicity is given regarding the excellent infrastructure, buildings, spacious playgrounds and aims and objectives of the College. The intake capacity of 128 seats approved by Govt. of Odisha was filled up to 90% during 1st year(2008-09) opening of the college. Subsequently Government has enhanced the capacity of the college to 192 seats during the academic session 2011-12.With efficient, highly qualified and experienced teaching staff and a dynamic and capable Principal having supportive management there was no stone unturned to give a strong footing. Extra tutorial classes for the weak students are conducted on regular basis. Students indulge with activities like  singing, elocution, debate and games (both outdoors and indoors).
