The College owes its origin to the untiring and dedicated efforts of Dr. Bibhuti Bhusan Harichandan, the Ex. M.L.A of Chilika Assembly Constituency. The idea of having an institution of higher learning in an area which is predominantly inhabited by people of the lower strata of the society came into the minds of the intelligentsia of Nachuni as early as 1980 which could become a reality on 7^th August, 1981, with the foundation of the College, in a place which is very close to Natonal Highway No.-5 and 80km away from the State capital, Bhubaneswar and 55 km away from the District Head Quarter. Khurda. People of this area mostly live on fishing in the adjoining Chilika Lake or live on manual labor. The major chunk of this category of people belongs to the scheduled caste community. Earlier there were some High Schools here and there. Success rate in these schools were quite satisfactory in High School Certificate Examinations. In spite of that students of [his area were deprived of Higher Education because there was no college in this locality. A few students who were from middle class families were able to a fiord for pursuing Higher Education either at Banpur or at Khurda, 55 kms. away from Nachuni High School leavers from economically backward families of this  rural area were destined to remain matriculates even through they had a good class in matriculation. The pursuit to open a college in Nachuni continued for about for about a year and Dr. Harichandan with the active support of Mr. Prafulla Kumar Samantasinghar, the then Head Master of Nachuni Godavarish High  School. Nachuni and Mr. Laxmidhar Bhola, the then Chairman of Banpur Panchayat Samiti could convince the people of the locality through personal contact to establish a college for their benefit. The efforts of these trio could impress the general public of Nachuni and they volunteered to extend supporting hands for this noble cause. Since Dr. Harichandan was a Physician of repute. Mr. Samaniasinghar was an educationist and Mr. Bhola was a popular social worker. People could rely on them and made the proposal a reality. Students were admitted to 1^st year of Intermediate Arts (I.A) class from the academic session 1981-82. Teachers were appointed to teach in the college. The college was born and crawled in the premises of the Nachuni Godavarish High School. Nachuni. Later on it moved into its own building on a spacious area of 1000 acres (1.00.000 sqmt.).

     Through the college was founded in 1981 certain non-academic considerations delayeded the process of its recognition by the Giovernment of Odisha for which two batches of its students had to appear at the I.A. Examination privately. The college was affiliated to Utkal University from the academic session 1983-84 at I.A stage with 128 seats and the first batch of its students appeared at the I.A. Examination as regular candidates in 1985 at their home centre. With the revision of education pattern and introduction of 10, +2, +3 system in Odisha the college was re-affiliated to the newly created Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha in place of Utkal University at +2 Arts stage with 128 seats. Efforts were on for the expansion of the college. It achieved one more success in its early years when Government concurrence was accorded to open Science stream in the college at the +2 stage with 128 seats from the academic session 1986-87.

     On application, Government concurrence was accorded to open 3 year Degree classes in Arts with 128 seats and again it was affiliated to Utkal University as a Degree College from the academic session 1988-89. Government concurrence was obtained to open +3 Degree classes m Science stream from the academic session 1989-90 with affiliation to Utkal University with 64 seats. Attempts were always on for the up gradation of the College. Government concurrence was again obtained to open Honors classes in Political Science and History from the academic session 1993-94 with 16 seats m each subject. The management of the college did not sit idle and continued its endeavor for opening Honors classes in Sanskrit and Education in Arts stream and Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology in Science stream with 16 seats each from the academ and Science. Since Higher Secondary ( +2) classes are yet to be separated ic session 2003-2004. On the eve of its 25^th birth day the college at present is a full-fledged Degree College with permanent concurrence and affiliation for imparting education both at Degree Pass and Honors stage in Artsfrom college education in Odisha the college is bound to retain the same in the same structure  like all  other Government  and  Non-Government colleges of Odisha.

     Nachuni Mahavidyalaya has so far been able to open subjects like English. M.I.L(Odia), Political Science, History, Economics, Education, Sanskrit, Logic, Philosophy, Sociology and Psychology in Arts stream. Since Stream imparts teaching in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. Botany and Zoology. Besides this some allied subjects like Environmental Studies, Information Technology, Indian Polity, Indian Economy. Indian Society & Cultures and Landmarks in Indian History.

     The College is fortunate to have a good number of high-qualified faculty members out of which 08 (Eight) are Ph.D. Degree holders and 08( Eight) are M.Phil. Degree holders. Some of them are actively engaged in research works in their field. One of them has submitted a proposal for a Minor Research Project lo the UGC in the ensuing academic session. Earlier one such project was approved by the UGC and its report is yet to be submitted to the UGC. The faculty members have engaged themselves in teaching, conducting seminars and symposiums and in guiding the students in their mission of becoming human resources for the State and Society. To a great extent they have accomplished the task that the society has reposed in them.

     Nacliuni Mahavidyalaya feels proud for its disciplined students. Never in its 25 years of history there has been a student unrest in this College. The process of socialization is in the desired direction.

     The College has a glorious past, the present is open for public scrutiny and it assures a bright and prosperous future. Its endeavor is to strive towards excellence. It hopes to achieve the same with the sincere, diligent and dedicated efforts of its teachers and non-teaching employees who have a deep sense of devotion to their duties. Students are always there to make our dream a reality.
