Chandra Sekhar College, Champua ,Kenojhar Orissa named after the presiding deity of Champua, the Sub-Divisional headquarter is situated a few yards away from the holiest river of Odisha, "The Baitarani" It is situated 50 K.Ms away from Keonjhar, the District headquarters, it stands out near the boarder between Odisha & Jharkhand to serve as a bacon light to the economically backward & principally tribal humanity inhabiting the neighbourhood.
The initiative taken by late Bhagirathi Mahanta, late Somanath Mishra, late Basudev Kar, Late Narottam Pradhan to set up a college in the Year 1967 was not materialised due to financial constraints.
The long cherished vision of the conscious public materialised as the college came into being on 7th July-1977.Thanks to untiring efforts & initiative of the then Hon'ble Minister of State Mr. Saharai Oram & sincere efforts of some enthusiastic noble souls of this area who could focus the public attention on the general need of higher education & undertook adventure in founding the college
It was housed in the Mahatab High School, Champua premises & later shifted to its newly constructed building in 1978.This marked the beginning of the real growth of this college & since then the development of this institution has been phenomenal all over the years.
It started functioning with 110 students on its roll & there were just 12 teachers and 04 non-teaching staff members at the initial stage. Today, in the 34th years of its existence there are 930 students ,21 teachers and 24 non-teaching staff members of the college. The college extends over an area of 25 Acres of land . The institution has expanded to all possible directions providing teaching facility in Arts, Science and commerce in +2 and Arts and Science in +3 level. There is also teaching facility in the vocational stream up to +2 level.
The college reached to this stage owing to the able guidance & pioneering work of its founder president Late Basudev Kar. Also late Azizur Rehman, renouned industrialist, Sri Umakanta Mahanta,Sri Saharai Oram devoted themselves to the development of the college. Founder Secretary Sri Upendra Nath Mahanta streamlined the different areas of its functionaries.Subsequently,Late Brajasundar Pati took over as Secretary and did all his best for the college.Sri Umakanta Mahanta as its first Principal geared up the baby institution with all sincerity.
The college Library contains 8780 books out of which 807 books are in the reference section and 975 books are in the Book-Bank. It also subscribes to the leading journals and magazines to cater to the need of the students, teachers & researchers. With the basic assistance and development grants from University Grants Commission this college has developed in different directions. The dress code is also introduced here since the session 2005-06.
