Until 1977 the entire Nuapada Sub - Division was sans a college. Students interested to pursue higher education had to traverse long distances to reach either Bolangir or Bhawanipatana which were the nearest colleges available, they used to suffer great hardship as the state of communication was highly deplorable many a young man who could afford, preferred Raipur a big town in the neighbouring state of undivided Madhyapradesh at that time for provide butter communication and improved facilities. But alas I many meritorious students had to call it a day after matriculation as their financial condition did not allow them to afford education in far of places. So in 1978, the intelligential of Nuapada put their heads together and seriously thought about having a college in Nuapada; thus sprang up National College out of funds donated by local people of Nuapada and Khariar Road with Mr. B. K. Bose as the President and Mr. P. K. Azad as Secretary of the managing committee. The college initially functioned in National High School, Nuapada with intermediate in Arts in the following subjects. Nuapada with intermediate Arts in the following subjects . English, Mil (Oriya/Hind), Economics, History, Pol. Sc., Education, Mathematics, Logic, Oriya and Hindi Optional affiliated to Sambalpur University. +2 Arts stream started from 1986-87 with 256 seats.
By and by a site for the college was identified at a place midway between Nuapada and Khariar Road to enable students of both towns to have easy access to the college. The B.A. classes of the college got concurrence with an affiliated strength of 128 in English, Mil (Oriya / Hindi), Economics, History, Pol. Sc., Education, Oriya and Hindi Optional in 1986-87. +2 Commerce was inducted in 1986-87 with 64 Seats. The college started teaching in Political Science, History, Education (Hons) in 1990-91. No college is complete without science National College introduced science teaching facilities at +2 Level in 1993-94 with an affiliated strength of 96 students. We have also introduced Degree classes in Commerce we.f. 1994-95 awaiting Government concurrence. Honours in Oriya, Hindi and Economics is likely to be introduced from the next session.
Nuapada was made a district in 01-04-1993 and it is hoped that the college will develop by leaps and bounds in the years to come. 91.6% of students were belonging from ST/SC/OBC and Minority from the nearby area of Nuapada Township. The land of the college area is 16 Acers 12 Decimal.
